Yoga Poses for Low Back Pain

Posted on by

Hello Tashi lovers,

Today I wanted to dedicate the time to share some of my favorite yoga poses that help ease low back pain. Therefore, every Tuesday will be focused on Yoga poses, and mechanisms that can enhance everyday life. Yoga can offer a great relief for the pain, as well as provide great preventative care for the future. Here are five yoga poses to ease lower back pain and relieve that dull ache.

  1. Twist Spine- Lay on your back, bring your arms to a T-shape on the floor, and bring your knees towards your chest. Slowly lower both knees to the left, keeping the neck neutral or turning the gaze away from the knees.
  2. Sphinx Pose-  Sphinx pose promotes the natural curvature of the lower back. Start by laying on your stomach, feet hip-width apart, and bring the elbows under the shoulders. If there is too much pressure on your lower back, you can bring your elbows slightly forward.
  3. Cat and Cow Pose- Start on your hands and knees. While inhaling, lift your chest and tailbone towards the ceiling, and while exhaling, arch your back, pressing through the shoulder blades and dropping your head.

*Poses 1 & 2 should be held for 1-2 minutes

*Pose 3 should consist of 6-8 repetitions, (up and down being one rep).
